La Jolla Cove | California - June 2019

June 30, 2019

A couple years ago my sister got to visit this cool little beach in California that was covered with wild seals. I, of course, was super jealous so I knew it had to be on my bucket list of “Things to do in California” when I got the chance to visit.

I had that chance this past week. While in Anaheim with my family, my Mom and I drove an hour and a half south to that little beach called “La Jolla Cove.”

When we pulled into this little town it was crowded, but I expected no less. Once parked, we walked down the hill to the beach and all you could see to your right was kayakers, people snorkeling and miles of open ocean.

I smelled it before I saw it, I had reached the beach with the seals. Adults and babies covered the little beach area and I’m not just talking about the seals. This was a very popular spot as I am sure you can tell.

The center of attention was the big male (assuming it was a male) who looked like he enjoyed all the paparazzi. All of the seals looked like they weren’t bothered one bit by everyone surrounding them. Mom and I enjoyed the scenery and being so close to these seemingly lazy animals.

I liked watching the babies play the best. It was also fun to hear the parent seals call for the babies and the babies respond.

If you ever go to La Jolla Cove don’t forget to visit “Sunny Jim Sea Cave.” You enter the cave from inside the Cave store and for $5 you can descend down the 144 stairs into the sea cave to see Sunny Jim.

So if you ever want to get super close to sea lions without paying the crazy theme park fees then this is the place to go!
