Capturing Sports Photos

February 2022

Sports can be a big part of our lives and sports photography is the capture of sports, games, exercises, and other activities through photography. It has a connection of photojournalism as well as everyday life photography. If someone jumps it, kicks it, throws it, hurls it, wrestles it, or rides it, that’s sports photography.

Sports were always a big factor in my life. I grew up playing Softball, Volleyball, was a statistician for Baseball & Boys Basketball and dabbled in a bit of Soccer (but we won't talk about that). My favorites were Volleyball and doing stats for boys Basketball. My brother and sister also played multiple sports.

When they were on the field you could usually find me somewhere on the sidelines with a camera capturing the action.

It’s always fun to have someone capture these sports moments so you have memories to share in the future. Sports photography isn’t always about the motion shots – I like to capture the struggle, the joy, the fun, the personal growth—the moments that tell a story on the sidelines, in the crowd and even when the play stops.
